The Proposal

Margaret Tate is a successful book editor whose carefully controlled life is thrown into chaos when she faces deportation to Canada. Desperate to keep her job and remain in the country, she suddenly claims that she is engaged to her long-suffering assistant, Andrew. Although Andrew agrees to go along with the lie, he has a few conditions of his own. To convince immigration officials that their relationship is genuine, Margaret travels with Andrew to Alaska to meet his eccentric family. Used to having complete control over her life in the city, Margaret quickly finds herself overwhelmed by the unfamiliar surroundings and the unexpected situations she encounters. As their fake engagement becomes increasingly difficult to maintain, Margaret and Andrew are forced to act like a real couple. Before long, the boundaries between their carefully planned arrangement and genuine feelings begin to blur.
